ORTEC celebrates 30 years of ORTEC Shortrec:14 June 2011

the leading advanced planning solution (APS) for transport planning and optimization
ORTEC, one of the largest providers of advanced planning solutions and consultancy services, is delighted to announce that 2011 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the launch of one of its most successful and widely used solutions: ORTEC Shortrec. More than 200 companies worldwide use the software application to automate and optimize their complex transport and distribution planning processes. Commenting on this fact, Huub Vankan - ORTEC Product Manager, states: "Our customers are one of our most important assets and that's why we will continue to offer the same high standard of service and support in future so that more and more customers can continue to benefit from our solutions."

Bi-annual enhancement packages
ORTEC prides itself on delivering state-of-the-art products that are fully supported and routinely updated. The enhancement packages (EPs), released twice a year, not only contain functional and technical updates, but they also deliver a host of new features that are driven by market developments and/or customer requirements. Huub Vankan describes the advantages: "By continuing to develop and invest in our products, our clients benefit from the very latest technological developments. The Map & Route and Congestion Pattern modules that were recently added to a number of products, including ORTEC Shortrec, are an example of this investment." With Map & Route, companies can take advantage of real-time accelerated route calculations and visualization enhancements. Furthermore, the inclusion of Navteq's congestion pattern data for trucks means that dispatchers can more accurately determine anticipated travel time.  Further information about these enhancements can be found in the following press release: ORTEC Map & Route.

Latest product developments
As part of ORTEC's continuous product development process, several improvements have been made in the area of break time calculations and options to attach and detach trailers. For example, in order to meet legislation the system now includes parameter settings to indicate the minimum break duration when working time and driving time breaks are split. Meanwhile, the ability to couple and uncouple trailers is a useful enhancement to handle delivery locations that can not be reached by long and/or heavy goods vehicles.

ORTEC has a wide customer base that spans a multitude of industries: Retail; Oil, Gas & Chemicals; Consumer Packaged Goods; Transport, Logistics Service Providers; Agriculture; and Express & Mail. To optimally serve its diverse customers, ORTEC also includes a number of industry-specific developments as part of its release strategy - for example, maximum payload functionality for the bulk transportation industry.

Future product developments
ORTEC Shortrec's 2011 product development roadmap consists of a number of enhancements aimed at improving and extending the software even further. For example, new functionality will be designed to facilitate route plan calculations for cross docking operations. With this enhancement the system will be able to combine orders for subsequent delivery to an intermediate cross-docking depot, at which point the product(s) will be unloaded, split and then loaded on to separate trailers for delivery to their destination location.
