Eric Giebels from the Thieme GrafiMedia Groep wins first prize in ORTEC Resource Optimization Quiz14 July 2008
Eric Giebels from the Thieme GrafiMedia Groep is the winner of the ORTEC Resource Optimization Quiz. This quiz was set up in response to the launch of ORTEC's new website in April this year.
Giebels' responses were the closest to the correct answers for the final question – 'How many trucks are deployed worldwide using ORTEC software and what reduction in CO2 emissions does this provide?'. This won him first price – a travel voucher worth €1,500 plus €1,500 spending money.
ORTEC is used to optimize the journey and route schedules of more than 150,000 vehicles worldwide. This results in an annual reduction of CO2 emissions of approximately 400,000 tons.
'It wasn't exactly coincidence that my answers were the closest. I put a lot of effort into finding out the answers,' says Eric Giebels from the Thieme Group. 'I browsed through the entire ORTEC website in search of the right information, then I called a few customers and made some calculations using what I had discovered.' And quite successfully too. Giebels was naturally delighted with his prize, 'I haven't been on holiday for a few years now, so the travel voucher is more than welcome!'

Other Winners
In addition to the first prize, participants in the quiz also competed for one of three runner-up prizes – travel vouchers each worth €1,000.
The runners up were:
- Eva Rottiers from Palm Breweries, Belgium
- Chris Edwards from TouchStar, UK
- Joost Burghoorn from Philips Lighting, Netherlands (Philips decided to donate the money to charity)
