The healthcare sector is very dynamic. The demographic change as well as scientific progress led to increased costs for healthcare. In addition, the sector continues to struggle with the consequences of the economic crisis and exposure to bad debt expenses. As a result, the pressure on margins rises. In a sector where labor costs typically account for 50% to 70% of the operation budgets, it is vital to optimize the deployment of staff. ORTEC provides the healthcare sector with solutions for resource and service planning.

ORBIS Medical and Healthcare Group
Innovation with SAP certified Workforce Scheduling solution
ORBIS Medical and Healthcare Group is the first hospital to select for ORTEC’s SAPCertified Workforce Scheduling Solution.
The new ORBIS Medical Park, where the Hospital of the Future will be located, involves far more than just the construction of new buildings. To capitalize on future healthcare requirements, ORBIS Medical and Healthcare Group has developed a new concept in healthcare in which construction, layout, organization, processes and IT have all been completely revamped. In anticipation of this new concept and the move to the new premises, ORBIS has optimized its resource planning processes by implementing ORTEC’s workforce scheduling solution, HARMONY, across its entire organization and integrating it with its SAP HR and Payroll systems.
Cost Savings
“Our plan is to have all processes will in theory have been completely digitized by the time we move to the ORBIS Medical Park,”says Mirella Bouweriks, HR Director. To make information available at every work station, paper has been eliminated on the work floor, and the entire primary process (including patient files) and integrated shift roster schedule will be available throughout the hospital in digital format. ORBIS has been working on Transparent Rostering and Integral Planning for the entire ORBIS Medical Park under the project name TRIP. “Currently, scheduling is fragmented across 85 different scheduling systems throughout the organization. This will shortly become one unified system that is fully integrated with SAP HR,” says Bouweriks. “We anticipate achieving considerable improvements in staff deployment, which in turn will contribute to higher quality healthcare and reduced costs. Our business case estimates a return on investment of less than two years. In the area of scheduling alone, we are already achieving savings of more than 50%."
