ORTEC has developed a model in cooperation with the Flanders Institute for Logistics for calculating the CO2 emissions from road transport and distribution networks. The Institute wants to realize improvements in services and reduce transport costs and CO2 emissions by means of cooperative distribution between companies.

“This model is unique in that it takes into account a wide variety of factors that have an effect on CO2 emissions. These include the distance traveled, the average speed, the type of vehicle, the load and the waiting times between every two stops,” says VIL Logistics Expert Sven Verstrepen. “This calculation method enables us to make far more accurate and realistic calculations than we can when using the linear models.”
