What is it?
Vehicle Routing and Dispatch, also known as Routing and Scheduling, is the management process related to servicing a number of customers with a fleet of vehicles. Vehicle Routing and Dispatch is an important problem in the fields of transportation, distribution and logistics. Often the context is that of delivering goods located at a central depot to customers who have placed orders for such goods. Implicit is the goal of minimizing the cost of distributing the goods. Instead of delivering goods, the Vehicle Routing and Dispatch process is also related to picking up goods, or a mix of delivery and picking up. The real challenge is to balance revenue and costs of these processes, while at the same time reaching company goals and handling many restrictions.
