This vehicle routing and dispatch function is useful for preventing loading bottlenecks in distribution environments, particularly early in the morning when route starting times tend to be clustered.
For example, if a warehouse depot has a limited number of loading docks or loading floor space, the new optimizer can prevent congestion and delays by balancing workload at the depot. Route start times are optimized so that the number of simultaneous loading vehicles is based on the maximum number of loading docks. Naturally, the system still generates the most compact and efficient routes, taking into account working hours legislation and other planning restrictions.

Figure: results without departure smoothing with 14 docks, compared to results with departure smoothing, using only 10 docks.
