Transport company A.C.G. looking to consolidate its competitive position by using ORTEC’s scheduling solution
24 December 2007
In order to be able to continue to respond to customer needs and comply with the restrictions imposed by municipalities in specific delivery areas, transport company A.C.G. Gordijn will be implementing SHORTREC, ORTEC’s scheduling and routing system. A.C.G. Gordijn Project Manager Dennis van Mespel stated: “It is no longer possible for planners to plan transport and routes without the aid of some sort of software application. Each municipality has its own set of restrictions, such as areas that are closed to automobile traffic. We also want to be able to continue to meet the requirements of our customers, who often have varying opening hours."
Cost savings
“Our main objective is to achieve savings,” Application Manager Martijn Ouwehand added. “If we can use our vehicles more efficiently, we can save on vehicle costs. That also means that we can continue to meet our customers’ requirements with fewer resources and the same number of people – with the added benefit of being able to consolidate our competitive position.” A.C.G. Gordijn will also be using SHORTREC to calculate what-if scenarios. “That’s a process we use for new customers, for example, but also for starting new activities,” Mr. Van Mespel explained. “We recently performed an activity for the Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn. If we hadn’t calculated the action with SHORTREC, we would never have been able to complete it successfully.”

Ultra-fast
A.C.G. Gordijn vehicles currently on the road already rely on SHORTREC. Before the transport company switched to the scheduling and routing system, it used waybills to plan its routes.
“We would arrange them in the right order and then plan the routes, whereas now we first set up a schedule, which makes it easy to print the waybills sequentially. It’s a fully paperless process – very well-organized and ultra fast.”
